Salem Javanese is being exported to Canada for the first time

Tamil Nadu: SecoServe has begun exporting chemical-free rice from Salem to Canada.

Tamil Nadu ranks first in the production of cassava starch and starch, meeting 80% of the country’s demand. Tamil Nadu has approximately 400 cassava factories operating under the Small Scale Industries Department.

The Starch and Seco Manufacturers Service Industrial Cooperative Society, under the Commerce and Industry Department of the Tamil Nadu government, is working to provide warehousing and marketing facilities to rice and starch manufacturers in Salem.

This company, known as SecoServe, is benefiting rice producers in Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Dharmapuri, Trichy, Villupuram, and Tiruvannamalai districts.

SecoServe, which ensures rice producers receive good prices without the hassle of middlemen, is also ensuring that chemical-free rice is available to the public.

Cassava starch production involves simple steps such as grinding, transformation, roasting, and polishing. Cassava starch produced by Seko Char members is then electronically auctioned after undergoing various stages of quality testing.

The central government has exempted yam from excise duty because it is used as a food for fasting people and children in most states.

Traditional Javanese rice has also received a Geographical Indication (GIO) designation, Salem Seko Char. Consequently, the Salem Seko Char company has begun exporting it to countries around the world. In collaboration with the Central Government’s Agriculture and Processed Food Export Promotion Authority, Salem Javanese rice was shipped to Canada for the first time on Thursday.

The first vehicle was flagged off by Keerthi Priyadarshini, Executive Director of Salem Seko Char. Abhishek Yadav, Chairman of the Central Government’s Agriculture and Processed Food Export Promotion Authority, participated in the event via video conferencing. Seco Char, which previously relied solely on the Indian market, has now turned global.

This has provided an opportunity to improve the livelihoods of the 500,000 people dependent on this industry. It is noteworthy that after Canada, SecoServ has launched a commercial initiative to export rice to European countries and Africa.
