Saina Nehwal Confirms Retirement From Badminton

Indian women’s badminton star Saina Nehwal has made a sensational announcement. She has said goodbye to the game of badminton. Saina, who has been a pioneer in women’s badminton and has achieved many great successes, said on a podcast that she will no longer play.

“I stopped playing two years ago. I got into the game with a lot of passion. Now I’m quitting on my own. It’s like the story ends when I can’t play anymore. It’s natural. I didn’t think it was such a big deal to announce my retirement. That’s why I didn’t say it. I felt like this was the time to say goodbye to the game. Because my knees aren’t cooperating like they used to.”

“I got arthritis.. The cartilage was completely damaged. I couldn’t tolerate intense training for long periods like I used to. That’s why this decision was necessary. I had to tell my parents and coaches that I couldn’t play at that level anymore. I told them that it was very difficult. Earlier, I used to train for 8 to 9 hours a day. Now my knees are swelling within an hour or two. Then I felt.. Enough. I can’t work harder than this. That’s why I decided to say goodbye to the game,” Saina said.
