Punjab: SAD held an impressive rally in Batala in support of party candidate Daljit Singh Cheema, with local leaders saying he was fully aware of the problems in Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency.
Addressing the gathering, SAD Batala unit in-charge Naresh Mahajan said, “Cheema is a doctor. Hence he is well educated. He is well aware of the political topography of the area and has also made detailed plans to revive the city’s once famous industrial units.
He has assured to raise the problems of industrialists with the Central Government through his personal contacts in New Delhi. He has assured the business lobby that he will work towards ensuring that tax concessions are given to industrialists on the lines of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh,” said Mahajan, who was earlier in the BJP.
Apart from this, he fiercely targeted BJP and Congress for calling Cheema an outsider. “Cheema was born in Gurdaspur district. He is not an outsider in any sense. Our rival parties should not make this an issue as there is no truth in their argument that Cheema is an outsider,” Mahajan said.
