Public Relations Webdesk | The rupee strengthened by 5 paise to 81.97 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday. This strengthening of the rupee has been recorded due to foreign capital inflow and increase in domestic equity. The currency opened at 82 after gaining two paise at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market. The currency traded in a narrow range of 82.01 to 81.97 in early trade.
At 9.35 am, the rupee was trading at 81.97 against the US dollar. This level was showing an increase of 5 paise over the previous closing level of 82.02. Analysts attributed the boost to the rupee sentiment to foreign portfolio investment in equities and overnight fall in the US dollar in global markets.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was almost flat at 102.58. Talking about the global crude oil benchmark Brent crude, it was up by 0.69 percent. It was trading higher at US$ 72.76 per barrel.
In the domestic equity market, the 30-share Sensex advanced 199.06 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 63,615.09. On the other hand, if we talk about Nifty, it has reached the level of 18,880.15 after gaining 62.75 points.
