Chennai (IANS) | After fighting a long legal battle against the DMK government, the RSS on Sunday held route marches at 45 places in Tamil Nadu. Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan participated in the march taken out here at Korattur.
The legal battle was fought by the RSS leadership after the DMK government banned the regular annual route march to be held on October 2, 2022. The police department informed the RSS that the march could not be allowed since the Islamist organization was banned. The Popular Front of India (PFI) may be attacked by the central government on the route march of the RSS.
The RSS approached the Madras High Court and a single judge bench allowed the march to be held at three places, which the organization complied with and held on 6 November. However, the RSS approached the bench, which allowed route marches to be held in all parts of the state.
The Tamil Nadu government appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision, but the apex court upheld the division bench’s decision and allowed route marches to be held across the state.
Eventually the Tamil Nadu Police had to give permission for the route march and marches were taken out at 45 places on Sunday.
