New Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key absconding member of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI) for the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Srinivasan in Kerala in 2022. Shafiq was the main accused in the target killing of Srinivasan. He was absconding since the crime in April 2022. He was detained from Kollam district of Kerala on Monday. According to the investigating agency, Shafiq, who hails from Malappuram, was part of the PFI that carried out the murder.
Investigation revealed that he had given shelter to another accused Ashraf KP, who had hatched the conspiracy along with other leaders and cadres of the organization under the instructions of the PFI leadership. Ashraf had also done Reiki before the murder. It is noteworthy that Srinivasan was murdered by a gang in Palakkad district of Kerala on April 16, 2022. A total of 71 people involved in the murder were identified and the NIA filed two chargesheets in March and November 2023. One of the accused, identified as Abdul Nassar, died in January 2023, while two fugitives, Sahir KV and Zafar Bhimantavida, were arrested in October 2023 and February 2024.
