Rowdy Nagendran’s treatment case: SC orders jail administration to take decision

Tamil Nadu : The Chennai High Court has said that the Vellore prison administration should examine and decide on the petition seeking permission for liver transplant for Rowdy Nagendran, who is in jail.

Rowdy Nagendran, arrested and jailed in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Armstrong, is undergoing treatment at the Vellore Government Hospital due to ill health.

In such a situation, Nagendran filed a petition before the prison administration seeking permission for liver transplant. When no action was taken on that petition, he filed a petition in the Chennai High Court. This petition came up for hearing on Tuesday before Justice M.S. Ramesh and Justice Lakshmi Narayanan.

At that time, Additional Public Prosecutor Muniyapraj appeared on behalf of the police department and said that the prison administration would review the petition seeking liver transplant and issue appropriate orders.

Accepting this, the judges ordered the prison administration to consider Nagendran’s petition within 10 days and issue appropriate orders. Although many people have come forward to donate their liver for liver transplant, it is the job of doctors to select the right person. Therefore, the Vellore jail administration should issue an order in this matter.
