Robbery at home and jewelry shop: Two arrested

Karnataka : The HSR Layout police have arrested two people who stole gold jewellery and cash from a house. Shalini (30), a resident of Chitradurga, was arrested for stealing from the house where she worked and 113 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh was seized from her. The theft took place at the house of Akshay Krishna, a resident of Sector 1 of HSR Layout and an IT employee. Shalini, who came to the city a few years ago, was living in a rented house in Somasandra with her husband and children. Her husband was an auto driver and Shalini worked as a caretaker. Police said Shalini was taking care of an elderly woman in the complainant’s house for three years. Meanwhile, she stole gold from the house and fled to Chitradurga. When they got suspicious and checked the cupboard, it was found that the jewellery had been stolen. Akshay Krishna had lodged a complaint. Later, investigations were conducted and Shali was called to the police station and when she was questioned, she confessed to the crime, sources said.

Another case: HSR Layout police have arrested a suspect who had stolen from the jewellery shop where he used to work.

Gopal Nayak (30) of Chitradurga has been arrested. Police said that 3 kg of silver items worth Rs 3 lakh have been seized from the accused.

The accused was working in a jewellery shop under the police station for about five years. There was a jewellery polishing shop below the shop and the accused used to take silver items there for polishing. During this time, he used to keep the silver items on a bike parked next to the polishing shop and take them away in the evening after the work was over. Police said that during a recent investigation of the jewellery shop, it was found that the silver items were stolen.
