Road etiquette is a pledge for the safety of life: Shimla DC

Himachal Pradesh: Shimla Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anupam Kashyap today appealed to residents to understand the vision of ‘reaching safely’ and said that road safety is not just about following rules, but a commitment to protecting lives. The DC made these remarks during a one-day blood donation and eye check-up camp organized at The Ridge today, on the last day of National Road Safety Month. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that National Road Safety Month was observed in the district from January 1 to January 31, during which various public awareness activities were organized throughout the district. He said, “Through these programs, people were made aware of road safety measures such as using helmets and seat belts, avoiding drunk driving, adhering to prescribed speed limits, and maintaining lane discipline. In addition, activities encouraging good Samaritans and eye check-up camps were also organized with the help of schools, colleges, transport operators, and the general public.”
Approximately 54 people donated blood, while 119 people underwent eye examinations. The blood donors were also felicitated by the DC. Giving information about the district’s road accident statistics, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Shimla, Vishwa Mohan Dev Chauhan, said that the road accident figures for 2025 in the district clearly indicate the need for continuous and sustained efforts in the district. He said, “During this period, approximately 268 road accidents occurred in the district, resulting in the loss of approximately 102 lives, while approximately 436 people were injured. The data shows that behavioral and human errors such as over-speeding, wrong overtaking, drunk driving, using mobile phones while driving, and violating traffic rules are the main causes of accidents. This shows that road safety depends not only on the administration but also on the people.”
