Maharashtra: The Municipal Corporation is laying slabs on the drain near the passport office on Road No. 22 in Wagle Estate area and building a road on it. Local citizens allege that this road is being built to take the garbage to the transfer center. On one hand, a writ petition has been filed in the High Court to remove this garbage transfer center, while the citizens are also asking how the road is being built on the drain. The Municipal Corporation has a garbage transfer center in the CP Lake area of Wagle Estate. Garbage is collected and classified from various areas of the city at this center. A huge pile of garbage has accumulated here. There is a traffic jam here throughout the day. This road is already narrow, while the traffic jam on this route is caused by garbage carrying vehicles.
On the one hand, local citizens are troubled by the stench spread in the area due to garbage and the traffic jam caused by it for many years. For the last three years, citizens have been demanding the closure of this garbage transfer center by continuously protesting and going on hunger strike. A writ petition has been filed in the High Court in this regard. However, citizens are asking how the road leading to the garbage transfer center is being prepared. There is a large drain near the passport office on Wagle Estate Road No. 22. During monsoon, a large amount of water from the mountains flows into this drain. Due to this, water often accumulates on this road during the rainy season. Social activist Rameshwar Bachate has expressed the possibility of more trouble for citizens this monsoon season if a road is built by placing slabs on this drain. He has written a letter to the Municipal Corporation demanding that the construction be stopped until the petition is decided.
