Tamil Nadu : Amid the continuous increase in the number of corona cases in the country, the Union Health Ministry has directed all the states and union territories to ensure adequate availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in hospitals. Government sources gave this information. High-level consultative meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairmanship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Sunita Sharma regarding the status of Kovid-19 in the country and precautionary measures. These meetings were attended by representatives of Disaster Management Unit, Emergency Management Unit, National Center for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research, Integrated Disease Surveillance Program and all states and union territories. In this regard, government sources said, ‘State and district units working under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program are closely monitoring the incidence of influenza-like symptoms and acute respiratory diseases in the country. Kovid-19 testing has been recommended for all hospitalized patients with severe respiratory illness, with 5 percent of confirmed Kovid-19 samples to be sent for full genome sequencing. He said, “In view of the spread of corona, all states and union territories have been advised to ensure adequate availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in hospitals.”
Increased to 4,302: As of Wednesday, the number of people infected with corona in the country is 4,302. Infection has been confirmed in 864 people in the last 24 hours. Government sources said that most of them have mild symptoms; they are recovering at home. The number of deaths due to corona since last January is 44.
“People should maintain hand hygiene. They should avoid going to crowded places if they are unwell. People with severe respiratory illness should consult a doctor if symptoms worsen.”
