Rice theft gang busted, committee vice president’s husband arrested

Korea. Two accused, Ram Gulab Sahu (45 years) and Umashankar Singh (51 years) have been arrested in the case of rice theft from the committee under Charcha police station of Koriya district. This theft came to light within 2 days of newly appointed SP Suraj Singh taking charge. SP said that in this case, Uma Shankar Singh, who had complained of theft, has turned out to be the accused thief. Rajesh Kurre, husband of the committee’s vice-chairman, was also involved in this, who is currently absconding. Police say that soon the accused Rajesh Kurre will also be arrested. The police is busy searching for him.

Investigation found that Rajesh Kurre, the husband of the vice-president of that committee, who operated the POS machine, used to sell the ration of the fair price shop in 10-10, 15-15 quintals every month to the small traders of the village from June 2022. Every month PDS goods used to come to the advance shop. By hiding from the sight of the beneficiaries of the shop, he used to fraudulently pay their ration after one month. The stock of the said food shop was checked by the food inspector in which it was found that there was a shortage of 177 quintals of rice in January 2024. Investigation found that Chairman Umashankar Singh and Rajesh Kurre, husband of the Vice Chairman of the Committee, had hatched a conspiracy and carried out the theft by breaking the lock of the shop themselves. The stolen rice was bought by Ram Gulab Sahu, resident of Chhidrad Baikunthpur.

In fact, on February 5, President of Surya Food Security Nutrition and Consumer Cooperative Society Limited Chervapara and complainant Umashankar Singh, resident of Chharchha Basti, A report of theft was lodged at Charcha police station. It was told in the complaint that unknown thieves had stolen 150 quintals of rice and 1 quintal of 50 kg sugar kept in the shop by breaking the lock of the fair price shop of the committee located in Chharchha Basti on the intervening night of 4th and 5th February 2024. . On February 19, as soon as the newly appointed SP Suraj Singh Parihar took charge, he first showed seriousness in this matter and insisted on catching the theft on priority basis. It was being investigated under the guidance and direction of SP.
