Bhubaneswar: Summer rains have brought some relief from the scorching heat in many parts of the state, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. After two days of scorching heat, the capital city received heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in the evening. The temperature has suddenly come down after the rain.
Many parts of northern Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj received heavy rain during the afternoon under the influence of westerly wind. In Bhubaneswar, the sky remained mostly cloudy during the day which helped in bringing down the mercury.
The rain in the capital lasted for about an hour. Power supply was disrupted in many parts due to lightning. The state capital, which two days ago had emerged as Asia’s sixth hottest city with the mercury above 43 degrees Celsius, dipped below 40 degrees Celsius today.
The IMD has predicted more rain over parts of Odisha during the next 24 hours. On Saturday, temperatures were recorded above 40 degrees Celsius in 21 towns, while four stations recorded temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius.
