Jashpur. The police has solved the murder mystery of an unknown woman found in a 30 feet deep ditch in village Bhabhari of City Kotwali within 72 hours. The deceased was first raped. Then the woman demanded money. On not giving money, the deceased threatened to implicate the accused in rape. Fearing this, both the accused beat the woman and strangled her to death. To escape from the police, they fled after throwing the woman’s body in the ditch.
In fact, on September 18, the police station City Kotwali Jashpur received information that the body of an unknown woman was lying in the village Bhabhari Gaurkina jungle drain. On this information, the City Kotwali Jashpur staff went to the spot and took the inquest panchnama action on the report of Sohan Ram Bhagat who gave the information. In the investigation, it was found that on the night of 17 September, an unknown person killed an unknown woman by hitting her with a sharp pointed or solid object and fled after throwing the body in the Gauri Nala of Bhabhari.
SP Shashi Mohan Singh took the matter seriously and formed a team under the leadership of ASP Anil Soni and sent photos to the Whatsapp beat group and neighboring states to identify the woman. During this time, information was received from an informer that the deceased was living in a rented house in Jashpurnagar for a few days and worked here. The age of the deceased was 30 years. In the investigation, the woman was identified as a resident of a village in Chainpur police station district Gumla. The mobile number of the deceased’s husband was obtained and a call was made. On 19 September, he came to Jashpur with his parents and other relatives and identified the deceased as his wife.
In the investigation, it was also found that the deceased lived in a rented house in Jashpurnagar. During interrogation, the neighbours told that on 17.09.2024, two persons had come to the house of the deceased at around 8-9 pm, out of which one person’s name is Rajendra Ram Minj alias Chhotu, a resident of village Sogda. When the police team took the main accused Rajendra Ram Minj into custody and strictly interrogated him, he broke down and accepted to have committed the crime along with his partner Sanjay Ram Bhagat. He told that he was already acquainted with the deceased, sometimes used to work with her. Due to acquaintance, Rajendra Ram Minj used to come to her rented house occasionally.
On 17 September, Rajendra Ram Minj had come to the court in Jashpur on a motorcycle CG 14 M 2890 with his maternal uncle’s son Sanjay Ram Bhagat for his hearing, after which in the evening, after buying fish and vegetables from the market, both of them went to the woman’s rented house. The woman told them that she was going to see Ganesh Visarjan. You guys keep cooking the vegetables and left. After this, both Rajendra Ram Minj and Sanjay Ram kept drinking alcohol in the room. At around 9:30 pm, the woman came back to her room and after eating food, all three of them went to village Bhabhari on a motorcycle for some work. On reaching there, the main accused Rajendra Ram allegedly raped the woman. Then the woman immediately demanded Rs. 4000 from Rajendra Ram Minj to fight the case. On not giving it, she threatened to implicate Rajendra Ram in the rape case and send him to jail.
When the dispute escalated on this matter, Rajendra Ram and Sanjay Ram got angry and together killed the woman by strangulating her, hitting her with stones and sticks. After the incident, the body was thrown into the drain. As sufficient evidence of crime was found against the accused, Rajendra Ram Minj alias Chhotu, Sanjay Ram Bhagat were interrogated and a memorandum statement was taken in front of witnesses. According to the memorandum statement, the motorcycle used in the incident and the blood-stained jeans, stone, stick used at the time of committing the incident have been seized from accused Rajendra Ram and the mobile and clothes of the deceased have been seized from Sanjay Ram. When the accused were found to have committed the crime under the said section, they were arrested on 21.09.2024 and sent to judicial custody.
