Rape case involving a young woman; Instagram friend arrested.

Raigarh. In a case of rape involving a young woman who met the accused through social media in the Pusaur police station area, the Pusaur police took swift action and arrested the accused, sending him to judicial custody. The accused had lured the victim with the promise of marriage, forcibly establishing physical relations with her at different locations, and later refused to marry her.

The victim filed a complaint at the Pusaur police station on October 31, 2025. According to the victim, she met Sandeep Pradhan, a resident of Borodipa Chowk, Pusaur, through Instagram approximately a year ago. Following this, they began communicating via mobile phone. During this time, between January 2024 and April 2024, the accused, promising marriage, took the victim to different locations and forcibly had physical relations with her. Later, the accused flatly refused to marry her. Based on the victim’s written application, a case was registered against the accused at the Pusaur police station under Crime Number 294/2025, Section 69 of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, the victim’s statement was recorded by a female police officer, and she also underwent a medical examination. The accused had been absconding since the registration of the case, but the police traced and apprehended him today. Upon questioning, the accused, Sandeep Pradhan, son of the late Narottam Pradhan, aged 25, a resident of Borodipa, Pusaur police station area, confessed to the crime. Following this, the accused underwent a medical examination at the CHC Pusaur and was presented before the court and sent to judicial custody.
