Raipur. The Election Commission of India has banned the conduct and broadcast of any kind of exit poll from November 13 to November 20. Issuing a notification in this regard, the Commission has banned the conduct and broadcast of any kind of exit poll during this period under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The notification issued by the Election Commission of India states that in view of the general elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Jharkhand and Maharashtra and by-elections in 48 Legislative Assemblies and two Parliamentary constituencies, there will be a ban on conducting and publishing any kind of exit poll, publicizing through print or electronic media or publishing or publicizing or disseminating its results in any other manner in relation to these elections during the period from 7 am on November 13, 2024 to 6.30 pm on November 20, 2024.
The Commission has also clarified in the notification that under Section 126 (1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the display of any election related matter including the results of any opinion poll or any other opinion survey in any electronic media shall be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll in connection with the general election to the Legislative Assemblies of Jharkhand and Maharashtra and bye-elections in 48 Legislative Assemblies and two Parliamentary constituencies.
