MUMBAI: Heavy rains battered Mumbai city. Normal life has been crippled, many flights cancelled and train services hit in the rains that have been lashing in the last 24 hours. Over 300 mm of rain was recorded from 1 am to 7 am Monday morning.
More than 50 flights have been cancelled. Several cars are submerged in water. All educational institutions including professional colleges have been shut. Water logging was reported from Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kings Circle Area, Dadar and Vidya Vihar railway stations have been flooded. More than 30 lakh people depend on train services daily. Transportation has been disrupted following mudslides in many areas.The weather department has predicted heavy rains today. There is a possibility of sea attack. Waves of 4.4 meters are expected.
NDRF team have been deployed in many places of Mumbai. They rescued 49 people from a water-logged resort at Thane in Maharashtra and 16 villagers in Palghar.
