Raigarh: Assistant Professors of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Government College, Jobi-Barra have taken a unique initiative, they have planted trees in the name of their mothers on 22 July 2024, the first day of Sawan Monday, under the banner of National Service Scheme program. This initiative is part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which aims to protect the environment and show respect to mothers.
Under the campaign, Principal Ravindra Thawait, Assistant Professor of Botany and Rashtriya Seva Yojana Program Officer Shri Surendra Pal Darshan and Assistant Professors of Hindi and English subjects Vasudev Prasad Patel and Yogendra Kumar Rathia planted various types of trees with their respective students. These include fruit-bearing, shady and medicinal trees. To plant these trees, he ordered Neem, Tulsi, Aloe Vera, Guava, Mango, Banyan and Peepal saplings from local nurseries and planted them in the college campus. After planting the trees, he also pledged to take care of them so that the trees can grow properly and benefit the environment.
During this, while addressing the students, Principal Mr. Thawait said that the main objective of this initiative is not only to make the environment green but also to express gratitude towards mothers. It is a matter of great joy that all of you took it seriously and today we all also became a part of this exemplary campaign. In continuation, Mr. Darshan highlighted the importance and utility of trees in the context of pollution, global warming, gaseous ratio, climate, photosynthesis and climate control including nutrition-diet, medical treatment etc. and explained how ‘trees’ play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. It is noteworthy that in this regard, Jobi College management is planting saplings to promote awareness among students and telling them about its importance. In this, there is widespread support from students as well as local people and communities. This sequence will continue.
