Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 announced globally, touted as world’s fastest mobile SoC

Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its latest System-on-a-chip (SoC) globally. The announcement was done at Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii. Qualcomm has claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform is the world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip. For those who are unknown, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The company has claimed that the flagship SoC sets new industry benchmarks.

It enables personalized AI agents to see what you see, hear what you hear and think with you in real time,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handset, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 pushes the boundaries of personal AI, allowing you to experience the future of mobile technology today.”

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (SM8850-AC) by Qualcomm is built on a 3nm process and offers 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU (which is fastest mobile CPU ever). The above mentioned CPU offers 20% more performance compared to its predecessor. Similarly, the CPU power efficiency has improved by 35%. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers eight cores and the two prime cores offer maximum frequency of 4.6GHz. The other six performance cores are clocked at up to 3.62GHz.

For graphics, the chipset offers Adreno GPU. Despite not mentioning the name of GPU, Qualcomm said that it delivers 23% improved performance, 20% better power efficiency, and 25% improved Ray Tracing. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers an overall power efficiency by up to 16%. In simpler terms, this will result in additional gaming time of 1 hour and 48 minutes. The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU on the SoC offers 37% faster performance.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series will be featured in flagship devices from global OEMs and smartphone brands, including Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
