Amritsar. Amritsar: Taking cognizance of the attack on a Spanish-Punjabi couple in Dalhousie by some locals, NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal today got a Zero FIR registered in Amritsar.
The FIR was registered against unknown persons at Amritsar Rural Police Station Baba Bakala and forwarded to Sultanpur Police Station in Chamba on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Jobanjit Singh, who lived in England and had accompanied them on the trip. The victim Kanwaljit Singh (26) and his Spanish wife Yolanla Garcia Gozales have been living in Spain for the last 25 years. Two weeks ago, they came to Punjab in search of some business opportunities. Meanwhile, they planned a trip to Dalhousie and Khajjiar.
In the FIR, Jobanjit said they arrived in Dalhousie on June 10 and reached Khajjiar at 2 am. They parked their car in the parking lot. The next morning around 11 am, when they were taking their car out of the parking, the parking contractor and employees stopped them. They claimed that the contractor had threatened them, referring to the incident in which a CISF employee slapped MP Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The parking employees also called locals, who attacked Kanwaljit with a sharp weapon, injuring his hand and head. Kanwaljit alleged that his wife had recorded the incident on her mobile phone but it was forcibly deleted by the police who reached the spot. The police rushed them to Chamba hospital for first aid but were reluctant to register a case. After this, keeping their safety in mind, they preferred to return to Amritsar, where Kanwaljit was admitted to a private hospital. His condition is stable at the moment. Dhaliwal, who met the victim’s family members at Panwa village in Baba Bakala, has also written a letter to the Himachal CM seeking intervention. “This incident is condemnable. Punjab police have registered a zero FIR in the case. He said, “I tried to talk to the Himachal DGP, but I was told that he is out of the state. I am planning to just hand over the copy of the FIR to the Himachal CM and DGP and demand an investigation and strict action against the attackers. Such incidents will create fear in the minds of tourists.”
