Punjab: Vigilance Bureau arrests Assistant Jail Superintendent taking bribe of Rs 10,000

Punjab: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in its drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Assistant Jail Superintendent of Nabha Central Jail, Bhivmatej Singla, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. Giving this information here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the jail superintendent was arrested following an investigation into a complaint lodged in the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. He further informed that a complainant from Patran town of Patiala district has alleged that the accused was allegedly harassing her husband lodged in Nabha Central Jail and was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Subsequently, the complainant sent a bribe of Rs 10,000 through Google Pay. The spokesperson said that after investigation, the allegations levelled in the complaint were found to be true and a case of corruption was registered against the Assistant Jail Superintendent at VB Police Station, Patiala. “The accused was absconding and his bail plea was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. After surrendering in the court, he was sent to one-day police remand by the VB,” an official said, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
