Punjab: The Patiala Police have initiated an investigation into an alleged incident of sacrilege in Samana, where sacred pages of a Sikh scripture were found scattered on Bhawangarh Road. This incident occurred near a protest site where activists and farmers, under the banner of the ‘Dharam Yudh Morcha,’ are staging a demonstration and demanding stricter laws against the desecration of holy scriptures. Protests against sacrilege have been ongoing in Samana for several weeks. DSP Samana, Fateh Singh Brar, along with a police team, visited the scene of the incident. Brar stated, “We are scrutinizing nearby CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the culprits.”
The protesters asserted that there is no discord among the people of Samana and that the objective behind such incidents is to disrupt communal harmony; therefore, apprehending the perpetrators is of utmost importance. Last month, supporters of Gurjit Singh Khalsa joined the ongoing protests in Samana, lending their support to the demand for the enactment of stringent laws against sacrilege. For over a year, 43-year-old Gurjit Singh Khalsa has been staging a protest by remaining atop a 400-foot-high BSNL tower in Samana, enduring various weather-related hardships throughout this period. He is demanding the enactment of a strict law that would ensure severe punishment for those responsible for acts of sacrilege, regardless of their religious affiliation.
