Punjab: Strict anti-sacrilege law implemented

Punjab: The state government has implemented a new and strict law to prevent cases of insult or sacrilege of religious texts and religious symbols. This step was taken to protect religious sentiments and maintain social peace in Punjab. Under the law, swift action will now be taken against individuals who desecrate religious texts, desecrate sacred sites such as temples, gurudwaras, or mosques, and desecrate religious symbols. Police and judicial officers have also been given special powers to enforce it.
Experts say that the new law will not only help deter violators but also contribute to maintaining communal harmony and peace in society. They stated that the law’s effectiveness will only be visible if it is properly implemented and public awareness is raised.
