Punjab: Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday launched the “Saanjh Rahat Project”, which aims to identify and provide assistance to victims of domestic violence, empower them and provide necessary psycho-social-legal support to enable them to live a violence-free life. The project will play a vital role in connecting victims to the necessary resources and services to help them make decisions about their future lives.
The project is a collaborative initiative between the Community Affairs Division (CAD) of Punjab Police and Indore-based NGO Nayi Shuruaat. The key partners include the Health Department, Social Security and Women and Child Development Department, State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority. Kumar Rahul, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab was the chief guest on the occasion. Special DGP of Community Affairs Division and Women Affairs Gurpreet Kaur Dev welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the initiative.
The DGP said that the project was initially launched as a pilot programme at Civil Hospital, SAS Nagar. He said that it will be expanded across the state later. He said two dedicated counsellors have been deployed at Civil Hospital, Mohali to identify and provide assistance to victims of domestic violence. Special DGP Gurpreet Kaur Dev said this project will help in providing assistance to victims of domestic violence in a coordinated manner.
