Punjab: Patwari arrested for taking bribe of Rs 25,000

Punjab: As part of the ongoing anti-corruption drive in Patwari, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Anil Narula, employed in Khalka Revenue Department at Jassiyan village in Ludhiana district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000. An official of the State Vigilance Bureau while sharing this information today said that the said Patwari was arrested based on a complaint lodged by Major Singh, a resident of New Amar Nagar, Ludhiana.

He also said that the applicant approached the V.B. and in his complaint alleged that the said accused had demanded Rs 25,000/- for producing tax documents for 25 years for cancellation of registration of his ancestral land. After preliminary investigation of the complaint, the WB team of Ludhiana Economic Offence Wing (EOW) laid a trap and arrested the accused red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, a case has been registered under the Vigilance Bureau E.O.W. against the said accused, the spokesperson said. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Police Corruption Act. The case has come to light from Ludhiana. He said that the accused will appear before the appropriate court tomorrow and further investigation is going on in the case.
