Punjab: No arrest even after three months in attack on Colonel Bath

Punjab: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the attack on Col Pushpinder Singh Baath on Friday visited the city to collect evidence and recreate the crime scene. Even after three months have passed, no arrest has been made in the case yet. A six-member team, including Chandigarh police, led by Inspector Gyan Singh, visited the eatery where the colonel and his son were allegedly attacked on the night of March 13 over a parking dispute. Two cars used in the crime and the victim’s car were brought to the spot outside the eatery. The team took some aerial views and mainly used drones to map the area.

Earlier, the team had visited Patiala on Tuesday but had to return as they did not get the requisite permission from the authorities to fly drones in the sensitive area. Col Baath’s wife Jaswinder Kaur, who was present at the spot during the recreation of the crime scene, said that even though it has been 90 days since the incident, four SHOs allegedly involved in the brutal attack are still roaming freely. He claimed that the eatery staff, who had earlier spoken about the incident, were now retracting their statements. “We are natives of Punjab, but we had to approach the UT administration for a fair and impartial probe. This speaks volumes about the credibility of the Punjab police. The incident took place on March 13, while the case was registered 10 days later after Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s intervention and massive public outrage,” he said.
