Punjab: Modi, Mann pay tribute

Punjab: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tributes to Fauja Singh on Tuesday. Modi wrote on Twitter, “Fauja Singh ji was extraordinary because of his unique personality and the way he inspired the youth of India on an important subject like fitness. He was an exceptional athlete with amazing determination. Deeply saddened by his demise…” Mann expressed condolences on Twitter, writing, “Very sad to hear about the demise of renowned Punjabi Sikh runner Fauja Singh ji.

The world’s oldest runner, who made the Sikh community proud with his long-distance running, will always live in our hearts and memories.” Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa also expressed grief over the incident. The Punjab Assembly also paid tribute to the legendary marathon runner. A resolution was moved in this regard by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravjot Singh.
