Punjab: Minister launches campaign against anemia

Punjab: Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Thursday launched the ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’ campaign at a function held at the local Sri Guru Arjun Dev Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School. Addressing the gathering, Dr Baljit Kaur said that around 30,000 girl students studying in classes 6 to 12 in government schools across the district will undergo blood tests to detect and treat anemia. The initiative aims to protect the health and well-being of young girls by identifying cases of anemia and ensuring prompt medical intervention.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rahul said that 10 medical teams of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) have been deployed for the smooth implementation of the campaign. The medical officers have already been trained to use special equipment for testing. Civil Surgeon Dr Gurpreet Singh Rai said the health department has developed a ‘Talk, Test, Treat’ (3T) strategy for the campaign. During the first phase, the health department teams will not only check the haemoglobin levels but will also assess the height, bone health and muscle strength of the students based on their age. These tests will be conducted without needle pricks, ensuring a pain-free experience for the students. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sanjeev Sharma, SDM Tarn Taran Arvinderpal Singh, District Vaccination Officer Dr Varinderpal Kaur and other officials were present on the occasion.
