Punjab: Mansa is moving towards zero stubble burning district status, with government data showing a sharp decline in farm fire incidents over the past two years. According to data shared by the district administration on Sunday, the district recorded 2,253 stubble burning incidents between September 15 and November 22 in 2023. Last year, the number had dropped to 592 during the same period, and this year, only 304 cases have been reported so far, a drop of over 48 percent compared to the previous season.
Of the district’s 244 villages, 104 have achieved complete stubble management, and there have been no farm fire incidents. One of the most notable changes is Heron Kalan village, once a major hotspot for farm fires. The village recorded zero incidents this year, compared to 45 in 2023 and 15 in 2024, placing it among the “zero-burning villages.” Gurmeet Singh, a farmer in the village, said he hasn’t burned stubble for the past three years. “This year, we baled nine acres and mixed the stubble into the remaining fields using a super seeder and mulching before sowing wheat,” he said.
