Punjab: Interstate gang of cyber criminals busted, 2 arrested

Punjab: With the arrest of two persons from Guwahati in Assam, Punjab police today claimed to have busted an interstate gang of cyber criminals who had duped Vardhman Industries chief SP Oswal of nearly Rs 7 crore. According to police, two accused, namely Atanu Choudhury and Anand Kumar Choudhury, residents of Guwahati, have been arrested and about Rs 5.25 crore has been recovered from them. Efforts are on to arrest seven more persons in connection with the case.

This is the second major fraud with an industrialist in the last 15-20 days. Earlier, a gang had duped renowned businessman Rajnish Ahuja of Rs one crore. Posing as CBI officers, the cyber criminals allegedly sent fake arrest warrants to SP Oswal and asked him to deposit Rs 7 crore in their accounts. By the time Oswal realised that they were committing fraud, it was too late. He brought the matter to the notice of the police. Though two arrests have been made, seven more people, including a woman, are said to be involved in the case. Police have seized six ATM cards, three mobile phones and Rs 5.25 crore from the suspects.
