Punjab: A seminar was organised by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) at Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir in Fazilka today to spread awareness about eye donation. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Popli, who was the chief guest of the programme, said that eye donation is a noble deed. He said that the district administration is ready to collaborate with social organisations to take this noble cause forward. He said that donating one person’s eyes brings light in the lives of two people. The ADC appreciated the Social Welfare Society, which has celebrated the 39th National Eye Donation Awareness Fortnight so far in 40 years and has been associated with the eye donation project for 17 years. Social activist Naresh Mittal said that students should become strong messengers to create awareness about eye donation. He said that there is no cost or loss in donating eyes.
Other activists including Charanjit Kaur Maini and Sandeep Aneja also appealed to the students to spread awareness about eye donation. Society’s president Shashikant said that the organization is in second place in the state in eye donation and so far 442 eye donations have been done. School’s principal Madhu Sharma praised this project and said that everyone should participate in this noble work. Society’s medical wing chairperson Bimla Dhawan administered oath to all the people present and students to donate eyes and create awareness about it in the society. During the program, a booklet ‘Untold Legacy’ written by Tejaswini, a student of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh was distributed. This book is about the problems faced by children and women in the field of education and their solutions.
