Punjab: Drones seen near ammunition depot, blackout in some areas

Punjab: After two days of total peace, drone sightings were reported from some areas around the Suranussi ammunition dump in Jalandhar, following which the district administration ordered a blackout in some areas. The Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited switched off power in areas around Suranussi, Jalandhar Cantonment and some other places. At 9.15 pm, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal put out a message, “As a precautionary measure, lights have been switched off in some areas around Suranussi, as there have been reports of some drone sightings. We are verifying these. There has been no blackout as of now. It has been confirmed by armed forces officials that there is nothing to worry about. They are monitoring regularly as usual.” Soon after the blasts were heard in Jalandhar, Dasuya’s Pandori village and Mukerian’s Chhangla village, Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain issued a message to the public at 9.30 pm, “As per the signals received from the Army, we have ordered a partial blackout in the areas of Dasuya and Mukerian. I appeal to the residents of Hoshiarpur to voluntarily switch off the lights of their houses and stay safe inside their homes. There is no need to panic about the situation.” Regarding the sounds heard in Jalandhar, DC Aggarwal said, “We have come to know that some miscreants have burst firecrackers. We have been asked to look into it and take strict action.”
