Punjab: The timing of the famous Beating Retreat ceremony, held at the Attari-Wagah border on the India-Pakistan border, has been changed. The Border Security Force (BSF) has released a new schedule keeping in mind tourist convenience and weather conditions. Sources say the decision was made due to the summer season and changing daylight hours. BSF officials stated that the new schedule aims to make the event more smooth and convenient for spectators. Previously, the ceremony was held at a fixed time in the evening, but the new schedule has slightly altered the timing. Officials stated that this change is solely for time management, without altering the dignity and traditional nature of the ceremony. A senior BSF official stated, “Beating Retreat is an important part of our cultural and national identity. The timing has been changed only for weather and crowd management.” Tourists and travel agencies have been informed of this change so they can adjust their schedules to the new timing. Tourists visiting Amritsar and surrounding areas visit this ceremony in large numbers, so the time change may impact tourism.
The local tourism department stated that arrangements have been adjusted to accommodate the new timings, and additional guides and information centers have been activated for tourist convenience. The Beating Retreat ceremony is a ceremonial drill conducted daily at the border by Indian and Pakistani soldiers, considered a symbol of discipline, coordination, and national pride. The event attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists each day. Tourists say the experience is thrilling and full of patriotism. One tourist said, “This spectacle is a proud moment for every Indian. No matter the time change, we will definitely come to see it.” Experts believe that such a time change will improve crowd management and provide a more comfortable experience for tourists.
