Punjab: Doctors will start agitation again on January 20

Punjab: The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) today said it will resume its agitation from January 20, as the government has failed to implement their demands despite assurances given in September last year. Talks between the Finance Department and the association representatives have not yielded any concrete results, the PCMSA said in a statement today. The PCMSA said it will declare a detailed programme of its agitation involving around 2500 doctors from across the state on January 19 in Moga.

Their demands include restoration of Assured Career Progression Scheme, round-the-clock security in all healthcare establishments in the state and filling up of a large number of posts of medical officers and specialists. The PCMSA members had staged a week-long agitation in September last year, suspending medical services and other routine work except for emergency cases and court hearings. The protest was withdrawn after the Chief Minister’s intervention and assurances from the state government to implement their demands in a time-bound manner. A notification in this regard is yet to be issued.
