Punjab: Cyclists to set out on 600 km expedition on September 28

PUNJAB: Azad Hind Pedalers Club (AHPC), Fazilka, is all set to embark on another challenging cycling expedition starting from September 28. Club founder Shashikant Gupta said four of his members will participate in the Super Randonneurs (SR) Series, which includes him and three other riders: Ram Kishan Kamboj, Arpit Setia and Simarjit Singh. He informed that Audax India Randonneurs (AIR) is an all-India organisation of Randonneurs, recognised by the Audax Club Paris (ACP), which oversees all Brevet de Randonneurs Mondieux and Audax events in India.

Club secretary Simaljit Singh said AIR organises a Super Randonneurs Series, in which cyclists have to complete four rides in a year – 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 600 km. Any cyclist who successfully completes these rides gets the title of Super Randonneur. Participant Arpit Setia said that all the riders of AHPC are excited about this 600 km ride, which will start from Abohar and go to Rohtak via Sito Gunno, Dabwali, Sirsa and Hisar. Rahul Gumbar, a young member of the club, said that it is expected that all the riders will complete the ride in the stipulated time of 40 hours.

He said that riders from Fazilka, Abohar, Malout, Lambi, Dabwali, Sirsa, Hisar and other cities will participate in this 600 km ride. About 20 riders from Punjab and Haryana are expected to participate in this event. He said that since this ride is being organized in Punjab and Haryana regions, Audax India has named it ‘Punjab-Haryana Friendship Ride’. Retired Naib Tehsildar Ram Kishan Kamboj said that four members of the club have successfully completed a 200 km ride from Bathinda to Abohar via Mandi Dabwali and Sito Gunno on November 19, 2023. The second 400 km ride was completed from Hisar to Abohar via Sirsa and Dabwali on March 16, 2024. The third 300 km ride was completed from Hisar to Dabwali on July 27, 2024.
