Punjab: Clash between two groups over firecrackers, one person shot

Punjab: A youth was killed in a dispute between two groups on Diwali night in Kotla Doom village of Rajasansi. Police have registered a case against 12 people and arrested two main accused, Loveleen Singh and Joban Singh. Baldev Singh, brother of the deceased Kashmir Singh, said, “Mangal Ram, a resident of our village, was bursting crackers in front of his house. His neighbour Loveleen Singh asked him not to burst crackers in the street. The two had an argument and later a fight, but the matter was resolved after the intervention of elders. However, newly elected sarpanch Nishan Singh and seven others attacked Mangal Ram’s house. They opened fire, killing my brother Kashmir Singh, who was present there to pacify them.” Police said the accused used a pistol, a .315 bore rifle and a .12 bore gun. Rajasansi SHO said, “Two accused have been arrested and the rest will be caught soon.”
