Punjab: Case filed against husband and in-laws for beating woman
Punjab: A case has been registered against a woman’s husband, father-in-law and sister-in-law for assaulting her, injuring her and chopping off her hair in Kathgarh village in Fazilka district, while the injured woman Manjit Kaur has been referred to GGS Medical College in Faridkot for treatment. Married 7 years ago, Manjit in her statement has alleged that her in-laws used to beat her and pressurize her to bring money from her parents. She alleged that her sister-in-law Neelam Rani called her to a room where her husband Amarjit Singh told her that they are buying some property for which they asked her to ask for Rs 40,000 from her parents.
When she refused to do so, her enraged husband, father-in-law Desa Singh and sister-in-law allegedly assaulted her. She also alleged that her husband attacked her nose, back and fingers with scissors and all of them chopped off her hair. As a result, she fell unconscious. However, Manjit Kaur’s brother Angrez Singh had on Friday alleged that injuries were also inflicted on her private parts. He claimed that he had recently given Rs 2 lakh to his sister’s in-laws. The accused have been booked under sections 115(2), 118(1), 79 and 3(5) of the BNS.
