Punjab: Cars vandalised, stones pelted on allegations of drug smuggling, case registered against 12

Punjab: A violent clash between two groups in Ludhiana’s Ambedkar Nagar has gone viral on social media. Some pictures are going viral in which some youths armed with sticks and sharp weapons are seen vandalising cars and pelting stones. According to locals, the clash started after some youths were accused of selling drugs in the area on Sunday night. When these people were questioned, the alleged drug peddlers returned armed with sharp weapons, iron rods and sticks. They then attacked the residents, injuring two youths. In the video, the attackers can be seen vandalising parked cars and throwing stones. Some residents claimed that a bottle bomb was also hurled during the attack.

On receiving information, Inspector Balwinder Singh of Model Town police station reached the spot with his team and inspected the spot. The residents alleged that drug peddlers were active in their area for a long time. They said that if anyone complained about them, they used to threaten to kill him. The inspector denied claims of bottle bomb attack. He said, “First a group stopped the youths near the Krishna temple and beat them up. Later, the other group also retaliated. There are reports of vandalism, stone pelting and damage to vehicles.” Police have registered a case against about a dozen people on the complaint of one side, while the other group has also lodged a complaint. The inspector further said, “The matter is being investigated. If a case of drug trafficking is found in it, strict action will be taken.”
