Punjab: On April 3, Goraya resident Jagdeep Kumar had reached Russia in search of his missing brother Mandeep Kumar, who is believed to be stranded in the war zone. Now, almost a month later, Jagdeep has returned empty-handed. He still has no information about his brother’s whereabouts but has vowed to go back again, no matter what. He also alleged that three agents hailing from Russia deceived his brother and Mandeep was given 15 days of sniper training and made to sign a contract in Russian language, while his brother did not even know Russian. He also filed a complaint against the agents at a Moscow police station. Jagdeep said, “My brother was told that he would be hired as a helper or cook, but he was sent to the war zone.” “The days were tough in Russia. The language was not understandable. The Indian embassy officials had just told me that my brother was missing,” he told the Tribune. “I also visited the Defence Ministry office there,” he said. “I will go to Russia again after a month to know about my brother, as the Russian government has given us 30 days.” Before leaving for Russia, he had met Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal and a Ministry of External Affairs official in this regard. He last spoke to his brother in March 2024. When Jagdeep was in Russia, his family members were also worried about him. Jagdeep’s mother said, “Already with one son missing and stuck there, I was praying every day for Jagdeep’s safe return.”
