Punjab: The use of Chinese manjha, which has been completely banned by the administration, claimed the life of a six-year-old boy in Galli No. 8 of Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar area of Tarn Taran. The deceased has been identified as Diljan Singh. He was the son of Armyman Ranjit Singh, who is currently posted at the border. Diljan, his elder sister Preneet Kaur (7) and grandmother were watching kites flying in the sky from the roof of their house. Diljan saw a cut kite above his house. He tried to pull the kite towards him with the help of a wooden stick.
The kite’s string got entangled in a high-voltage electric wire and current passed through it and as soon as Diljan caught it, he got electrocuted. Diljan’s maternal uncle Gurpreet Singh immediately rushed to the roof. He took Diljan to the local civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The family has informed Ranjit Singh about the tragic incident and he has left for home. Local residents said they have been demanding the removal of high-voltage power lines passing dangerously close to their houses, but to no avail so far.
