Punjab: Bike rider dies in accident

Punjab: Amargarh police have registered a case against a car driver who hit a motorcyclist and dragged him along at Bagarian village on Malerkotla-Patiala road. The victim has been identified as Rakesh Verma, a resident of Patiala. He died while being taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. The suspect has been identified as Palakpreet Singh of Dhadoghal village. He has been booked for negligent driving, police said.

Ramesh Verma, a close relative of the deceased, said the suspect was driving his car negligently. He said the suspect hit Rakesh’s motorcycle from behind when he was passing near the cremation ground in Bagarian village on Tuesday afternoon. “The car driver, later identified as Palakpreet Singh of Dhadoghal village, was driving his car so negligently that he dragged the seriously injured Rakesh Verma for more than fifty feet on the road,” Ramesh said.

Police officials said the victim was rushed to Amargarh Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. They said the victim died on the way to Patiala. Amargarh SHO Gurpreet Kaur said the police have registered a case of death due to negligent driving against Palakpreet Singh based on the statement of a witness named Prince Verma, a resident of Patiala. However, no arrest has been made yet.
