Punjab: Following reports of pink bollworm attack on crops in Patiala, Sangrur and Barnala, the district agriculture department initiated remedial measures to prevent potential losses. The measures included conducting surveys, organising workshops and making farmers aware to prevent bollworm attacks. Special teams of investigators led by agriculture officers Dr Kulbir Singh, Dr Kuldeep Kaur, Dr Rakesh Kumar, Inderdeep Kaur and sub-inspector Harminder Singh visited wheat crop fields to prevent further attacks. Agriculture officials said the worms attacked small wheat plants and sucked out the sap by making holes in the stem. They said yellowing of the plants was the first symptom of the attack. The officials recommended frequent inspections for early identification of pierced stems. They also advised farmers to spray insecticide solution.
