Punjab: Activists expressed concern over water pollution

Punjab: Several environmentalists from Abohar have raised their voice against pollution caused by Budha drain in Ludhiana. They said in a meeting today that water pollution is a matter of concern and the government needs to take it seriously. They told the officials that contaminated water of Budha drain is being dumped into Sutlej and reaching people through various canals, leading to spread of water-borne diseases. The activists also submitted a memorandum to Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Krishan Pal Rajput, urging the state government to stop the supply of contaminated water. Rajput assured the delegation that he will take up the issue with the state. Kamal Kant Khurana, advocates Ravinder Singh Gill, Tejinder Singh Khalsa, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Sukhjit Singh Danewalia, engineer Rakesh Sachdeva, educationist Rakesh Sehgal, Rajinder Singh Sekhon, Navtej Singh Chahal, Davinder Singh Gill, Soma Rani, Jeet Singh, Ajay Wadhwa and state awardee social worker Raju Charaya were also present in the meeting.
