Punjab: City-1 police team led by Assistant Sub Inspector Satnam Singh recovered 40 grams of heroin from a bike rider who was injured after his bike collided with a tractor-trailer near Gumjal village on Abohar-Sriganganagar road. Police said the bike rider was identified as Dharampal (35), a resident of Guruharsahai. He was returning from Sriganganagar. His bike collided with a tractor-trailer as he entered Abohar area near the inter-state barrier at Gumjal. Prima facie, it appeared that he lost control of the bike due to being drunk, which led to the accident. When the Road Safety Force team was taking him to the ambulance, the bike rider threw a polythene bag outside the vehicle. The team picked up the packet and recovered 40 grams of heroin from it.
The suspect was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Abohar, where doctors referred him to GGS Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot after seeing his critical condition. Meanwhile, a case was registered against him under sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. Another team recovered 40 grams of heroin from a woman named Rekha of Indira Nagri. Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh said the smuggler was stopped and searched on Johri Mandir Link Road. He has been arrested under the NDPS Act. In another incident, a team of Sadar police led by Sub-Inspector Davinder Singh recovered 6 kg of poppy husk from Pritam Singh of Fazilka at a check post near Said Wala village. He was arrested under sections 15-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
