Punjab: Prominent industrialist Rajinder Gupta, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election, owns neither a car nor any agricultural land. The matriculate, honorary chairman of the Trident Group, has not taken any loans. The family assets declared today are worth ₹5,053.03 crore, making him one of the richest individuals to be elected to the Rajya Sabha once the election results are announced on October 24. Following the scrutiny of nomination papers, in which the nomination of independent candidate Navneet Chaturvedi was rejected, Gupta and his wife Madhu are the only candidates left in the fray. Madhu is expected to withdraw her nomination on Wednesday, which could mean she will be elected unopposed.
Following the scrutiny of Gupta’s nomination papers, details of his assets and properties were made public today. He declared that his family owns movable assets worth ₹4,338.77 crore and immovable assets worth ₹615.74 crore. The Gupta family also runs the Madhuraj Foundation. He also stated that an FIR was filed against him in Nagpur in 2021, which he has challenged in the Maharashtra High Court.
