Punjab: Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested three drug smugglers and seized 5 kg heroin besides drug money worth Rs 3.95 lakh from their possession. The arrested persons have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh alias Happy, residents of Roranwali village, and Jota Singh, a resident of Chartewali village, Ajnala in Amritsar. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation revealed that Jota Singh and Harpreet Singh were in touch with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. They were using drones to bring drugs from across the border. He said that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act and investigation is underway to establish the back-and-forth links in the case.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the Chheharta police had received a tip-off that some people had received a huge consignment of narcotics dropped through drones from across the border and had hidden it in their house in New Ajnala Colony. He said, “The police acted immediately and arrested the accused from a house in New Ajnala Colony. Apart from the contraband and drug money, the police teams also seized his car and motorcycle.” The police commissioner said the accused had links with Pakistan-based smuggler Ali, who was delivering drugs to India through drones. The consignment of drugs seized was also delivered through drones. “The police have identified his accomplices who used to get drugs from him. Efforts are on to nab them,” Bhullar said.
