Punjab: Sangrur district police today claimed to have busted a gang of thieves allegedly involved in nearly 100 thefts of GUC-1 devices from base transceiver stations (BTS) of mobile phone towers in seven districts of Punjab. Police have arrested four members of the gang while two others have also been named as accused in the case. Police have reportedly seized 31 GUC-1 cards (each worth Rs 2.50 lakh) and a car, which was used by the accused to load the items stolen from mobile phone towers, from their possession. Superintendent of Police (Punjab Bureau of Investigation), Sangrur, Navreet Singh Virk said here today that in this case, police have arrested Ram Karan Singh and Avtar Singh, residents of Akoi Sahib village near Sangrur and Prem Singh and Rupinder Singh, residents of Benra village near Dhuri. After interrogation, police have also named Prince, a resident of Patiala, and Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Benra (Dhuri) in the case. He said that they have not been arrested yet. SP (PBI) Virk further said that the four arrested persons work in different telecom companies and were arrested by the police from Benra village. They were produced in court on June 13, from where they were sent to three-day police custody. SP (PBI) said that the arrested persons have confessed that they have stolen about 100 GUC (1) devices from mobile phone towers in Sangrur, Barnala, Bathinda, Moga, Mansa, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
