Punjab: 220 boxes of liquor seized from truck

Punjab: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday informed that a joint team of Excise Department and Mohali Police has seized 220 cases of liquor from a truck as part of a special drive launched to curb liquor smuggling from Chandigarh. He said that this seizure is one of the six major cases of liquor smuggling from Chandigarh to Punjab in recent times. Till December 31, 2024, 114 FIRs related to liquor smuggling from Chandigarh have been registered in which 30,096 bottles have been seized. He said that the Excise Department and Punjab Police are adopting a zero tolerance policy towards liquor smuggling. He said, “The ongoing drive will be further intensified with the continued cooperation of Punjab Police. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in liquor smuggling.”
