Punjab: Two months after over 20 people were booked in an attempt to murder case at Sandur police station here, five main accused were arrested while they were trying to flee to a neighbouring state.
Two 32 bore pistols, seven live cartridges, sharp-edged weapons and the vehicle used in the crime were seized from the five accused, identified as Harpreet Singh Happy, Baljit Singh Bobby, Jashanpreet Singh Jashni (all three residents of Kalyan village), Jaswinder Singh Sunny of Mithewal village and Deepak Singh of Pakhowal village in Ludhiana district.
Twenty people had attacked Jaswinder Singh Nikri and Gurdhyan Singh of Kalyan village at a bakery in Kalyan village on July 21. The attackers managed to escape after committing the crime. Based on Nikri’s statement, the police have registered a case against the accused under sections 109 (1), 126 (2), 115 (2), 115 (2), 117 (2), 191 (3) and 190/61 (2) A. An old rivalry is said to be the reason behind the attack.
