Fazilka: Sahil Preet Singh (17), a resident of Dabwala Kalan in Fazilka district, was shot dead by members of a rival faction near the district court complex on Tuesday. Sources said members of two rival factions were coming out of the court after a hearing when their cars collided, following which they opened fire. The bullet hit Sahil Preet Singh in the head, leading to his death. Five people have been detained in the case.
Class IV employees get Rs 9,700 interest-free wheat loan
Chandigarh: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday announced that the government has increased the interest-free wheat loan for Class IV (Group D) employees to Rs 9,700 for the financial year 2025-26. In a statement to the press, he said the loan will be recovered in eight instalments, starting with the June 2025 salary. He said the sanctioned amount will be disbursed by May 29.
Naib Tehsildar, Patwari arrested for taking bribe
Bathinda: Vigilance department officials from Bathinda arrested Naib Tehsildar Nirmal Singh and Patwari Gurtej Singh of Kotguru sub-tehsil Sangat while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. The action was taken on the complaint of Rajinder Kumar of Sangat Mandi. Both were arrested on the spot under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Drug addict found dead
Fazilka: Police sources said that the body of a suspected drug addict (22) was found in the toilet of Fazilka Civil Hospital on Monday evening. Senior Medical Officer Dr Eric said that the youth had died before the investigation.
